4. Lisieux transport prices down

Making cheaper public transport more widely available to the socially vulnerable

Since 1st January, cheaper public transport in Lisieux has become more widely available to the socially vulnerable: free transport is maintained for people on incomes equivalent to the basic RSA [earned income supplement] (approximately 1,600 in Lisieux) and access to public transport is widened to the most vulnerable according to their level of resources: “These are the people who benefit from the CMUC [Universal Health Care Scheme], the disabled adult allowance or senior citizens who receive the minimum state pension…”, said Christine ANNOOT. In practical terms, they now get a 50 % reduction on the monthly ticket, which is reduced from 24 to 12 €, i.e. 40 centimes a day”. The decision has two aims: social and environmental. Firstly, to make public transport accessible to as many people as possible, to prevent isolation at every level”, added Christine ANNOOT, “to help users make savings and thereby increase their buying power”. Secondly, as part of an environmental approach, it encourages the people of Lisieux to use urban transport instead of the car.
